Close Lumber is a family-owned building materials and hardware store chain in northern California, with locations in Sutter, Yuba City, Williams, Willows, Orland, and Corning. This job listing is for the Sutter location. Store operations are Monday through Saturday.
This employee’s focus will be to handle bookkeeping of Close Lumber, Inc. and Corning Lumber Company, and related tasks. This job will focus on the company’s accounts payable, and may also include tasks related to account reconciliation, accounts receivable, data entry, inventory database management, sales tax reporting, and general retail operations.

This is a part-time position. The work schedule is about 3-6 hours a day, 20 to 30 hours a week. This job includes part-time benefits, including:

Essential Job Tasks:
- Comply with company policies and standard procedures
- Provide excellent customer service to customers over the phone, via email, and in person
- Perform tasks related to accounts payable, such as: process invoices from our vendors, reach out to vendors when questions arise in invoices received, follow company handling and filing policies for paperwork
- Regularly perform account reconciliation
- Complete tax-related filings and provide tax-related information to the CPA
- Travel to other company store locations to assist in accounts payable tasks
Requirements of Applicant:
- Must pass a pre-employment physical and drug screening
- Must be able to use computerized bookkeeping software
- Excellent computer skills
- Must be able to work with Microsoft Excel (or experience with comparable spreadsheet software)
- Self-motivated with excellent time management skills
- Ability to work in a dynamic environment with changing priorities
- Effectively communicate with co-workers and administrative staff
- Ability to maintain great customer relations
- Enthusiastic interest in learning unique product offerings of the company
Skills that will help you stand out as an applicant:
- Previous experience in QuickBooks Enterprise Desktop (or comparable software)
- Previous experience in bookkeeping (accounts receivable or accounts payable)
- Experience in writing code in programming languages Python or JavaScript
- Previous experience in working in retail
- Relevant experience or knowledge in carpentry, construction, and building materials
